Scotland, Alexander III (1249‑1286) Penny, second coinage (c. 1280‑86), class Be, probably Berwick‑upon‑Tweed mint, although this is discernible only by style. Crowned profile bust left with fleur tipped sceptre, legend reads +ΛLEXΛNDER DEI GRA. Rev, long cross, four mullets of six points, legend surrounds REX SCOTORVM, 1.47gm (S. 5052; SCBI 35, 181 [dies]). A couple of areas of weakness, otherwise Extremely Fine and very rare as such, hints of golden tone.
