Philip and Mary (1554-58), Shilling, issued with full titles, undated with mark of value, wire line circles both sides, profile busts face to face, Philip on left, Mary to the right, crown above, legend surrounds PHILIP ET MARIA DG R ANG FR NEAP PR HISP. Rev, crowned oval quartered shield of arms incorporating Spain and England, legend reads POSVIMVS DEVM ADIVTOREM. NOSTRVM, mark of value XII flanking crown,, 6.04g (S.2498; N.1967). Toned, portraits showing excellent detail, depth and expression, Queen Mary especially true to life. Some light obverse surface markings. Reverse, detailed depiction of the shield, a far better specimen than usually encountered. Bold good very fine.
