Description

James VI, (1567-1625), Seventh coinage, Five Shillings, 1595, mintmark rosette, bareheaded armored bust right, legend surrounds IACOBVS 6 DG R SCOTORVM. Rev, crowned triple headed thistle, NEMO ME IMPVNE LACESSIT 1599 (S.5494).

Slightly short of flan with some areas ragged. Excellent rendition of the armored bust, few hairlines and surface markings, reverse thistle emblem detailed with a light scratch. Good very fine in the strike with an iridescent olive blue tone, a more than comprehensive example of the denomination despite the deficit in parts of flan.
