Description
James II (1685-88), Shilling, 1687/6, 7 over date over 6, toothed outer borders both sides, laureate and draped bust left, legend commences from bottom left, IACOBVS II DEI GRATIA. Rev, crowned cruciform shields with garter star at centre, seven strings to Irish harp, legend reads MAG BR FRA ET HIB REX, date either side of top crown, edge obliquely milled (S.3410; Bull.769; ESC.1072).
A bold example with clear fields and light toning, darker around the edges, couple field scratches some carbon streaks. Impressively struck up in the portrait, all the main details in place with legible legends and minimal soft spots. Rev, some flecking with prooflike reflective olive fields. Good extremely fine.
