An Indian Mutiny Medal, 1857-58, one clasp, Lucknow awarded to –Pte. Robert Antill – 38th (1st Staffordshire) Regiment Who Died at Lucknow 15th August 1858; Indian Mutiny Medal, one clasp, Lucknow, (R. Antill, 38th Regt.) very fine.
Private Robert Antill is also entitled to a Crimea Medal with the clasp Sebastopol, and a Turkish Crimea Medal.
The 38th (1st South Staffordshire) Regiment returned to England from Halifax, in August 1851, the Regiment was dispatched for service in the Crimean War in April 1854, taking part in the battles of the Alma in September 1854, the Battle of Inkermann in November 1854 and the Siege of Sebastopol in the winter of 1854. The Regiment then embarked for India in August 1857 and saw action at the Capture of Lucknow in March 1858. Private Robert Antill died at Lucknow on the 15th August 1858.
