India General Service Medal 1854-95, one claps Perak, awarded to Private George Hopkins 80th Foot, (820. Pte. G. Hopkins. 80th Foot.), lightly toned very fine

George Hopkins was born about 1844 in Stockport, Cheshire he attested on the 4th August 1860 for the 13th Foot stating his age as 18 and his trade as Labourer. He transferred to the 80th Foot on the 28th February 1861. He served with the Colours, 4th August 1860 to 29th July 1963, Home, 30th July 1863 to the 18th June 1866 in India; 19th June 1866 to 11th January 1872 Home; 12th January 1872 to the 27th December 1872, Straits Settlements; 28th December 1872 to the 10th November 1875 China; 11th November 1875 to the 12th December 1877 Perak; 13th January 1877 to the 10th Match 18977 Straits Settlements; 11th March 1877 to the 10th May 1880 Cape of Good Hope; 11th May 1880 to the 16th August 1881 Home. He retired from the Colours after 21 years 13 days. His papers state Campaigns, Bhootan, Perak and South Africa. He was awarded the India General Service Medal with the claps Bhootan, the India General Service Medal with the claps Perak the south Africa Medal clasp 1878 and on the 1st October 1879 the Long Service & good Conduct Medal. It would appear, from the way it is written that two IGS were issued, one for Bhootan and one for Perak.
