Description

Henry VIII (1509-47), Groat, second coinage (1526-44), Tower mint, mintmark rose both sides, crowned bust in profile right, Laker bust A3, legend surrounds HENRIC VIII DG R ΛGL Z FRΛNC. Rev, long cross fourchée over quartered shield of arms, saltires in fork ends, reads POSVI DEV Λ DIVTOR E MEV, 2.68g (S.2337C; N.1797; Whitton [i] 2).

A scarcer bust seldom seen, good overall detail especially precise in the hair, legends in the main legible with some fade in parts of reverse. Somewhat ragged in the eastern perimeter, otherwise very fine, a far rarer type.
