Description
Edward VI (1547-53), Half-Sovereign, coinage in the name of Henry VIII, (1547-49), Tower mint, initial mark arrow both sides, legend surrounds HENRIC 8 DG AG FRAN Z HIB REX, crowned King enthroned holding sceptre and orb within inner linear circle. Rev, crowned quartered shield with supporters, HIS AVTE TRANSIE PER MEDI ILLOR IBAT surrounds, 5.94g (S.2391; N.1865; cf. Schneider 645).
Fully centred in its strike, much of the underlying mint bloom visible with an excellent portrait and strong overall details in the Kings dress. Rev, the usual weakness in the left supporter, legends clear both sides with some distortion. An impressive specimen, about extremely fine, for a notoriously weakly struck issue, rare.
