Description

A 1916 Battle of The Somme Casualty British War Medal awarded to Private/Corporal John Duncan, 9th Battalion Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) who was Killed in Action on the 13th of September 1916 whilst on a working party in Shelter Wood. The Battalion had just come out of Action in the Attack on High Wood on the 8th of September. The War Diary notes Casualties since 12th of August 1916 402 all ranks. Comprising the 1914-1920 British War Medal (3-2712 Cpl. J. Duncan. R. Highrs.), lightly toned very fine

Corporal John Duncan landed in France on the 14th of July 1915, his body was not located after the War and he is commemorated on Pier and Face 10A of the Thiepval Memorial, Somme.
