Crowns

Crowns are Five Shilling pieces, traditionally struck in Silver. The first Silver Crown came into existence in 1551 during Edward VI’s reign and continued in one form or another up until the 1965 Cupro-Nickel Churchill Crown. Perhaps most popular with type collectors, they are immediatey accesible in a variety of grades whether in auction or in dealers trays. Large and imposing in their arrangement, with huge eye appeal, set on large flans and in many cases elaborate and complex.

Given the disparity in grade for many Crowns on the open market, they give the collector a chance to build a sequential collection within a tight and reasonable budget.
